Are You Prepared? Why Having a Plan Matters
Does your family have a plan? Emergencies can be overwhelming, but preparation and practice can take the panic out of a crisis. That’s why schools hold fire drills. That’s why wrestling and karate instructors teach their students to react instinctively—so when the moment comes, they know exactly what to do.
A recent house fire at my sister-in-law’s home was a sobering reminder of why preparedness matters. In the event of a fire, does your family know where to meet outside? Without a plan, someone could rush back into danger searching for a loved one who has already escaped. In any emergency, remember: life is the priority. Things can be replaced—people cannot.

In John 16:33, Jesus reminds us: “In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Trouble is inevitable, but when we are mentally and spiritually equipped, we can face it with strength and confidence.
I’m also reminded of the parable of the 10 virgins in Matthew 25:1-13. Five were prepared with extra oil; five were not. When the moment arrived, those who were unprepared missed out. While this is a spiritual lesson, it also speaks to everyday life: preparation matters.
Have a plan. Gather your provisions. Stay ready. And most importantly—embrace life, because it truly is a gift.
Are you prepared? If not, now is the time to start.
